Oregano is also called royal coin even though it is not a coin. Oregano is a perennial that can grow up to half a meter high. The leaves are oval with whole or slightly toothed edge and the flowers are small and purple. Flowering takes place during July/August. Oregano grows wild in most of Europe, Asia, America and also in Sweden. Leaves and flowers can be used both fresh and dried. Oregano should be used with some caution as it has a slightly sharp taste. The area of use is very wide and oregano fits extra well for pizza, pasta, salads, tomato and oral dishes and in minced meat sauce.
