The name Gevalia was created by a couple of linguistically skilled residents of Gävle, who translated the name of their city from Swedish to Latin, meaning 'Gävle.' This translation has been used locally for various purposes, including a cinema and a company that produced mineral water, as well as in other contexts. However, it has become most strongly associated with the coffee brand that bears the name.
